Lab Assistant, Baylee Johnson, is an incredibly important part of Team Danger. Here’s a little more about her!
What do you do here?
I currently work as the Laboratory Assistant in the Quality Control department; I assist with proper collection of samples, microbial checks, ensuring yeast health, sensory program, and help maintain a long term data set to ensure the quality of our product. In short, I help make sure your beer tastes great every time with scientific evidence.
How long have you been working with us?
I have been working at CDB for one year.
Why were you interested in working for Castle Danger?
I was interested in working at CDB from the “word on the street” reputation of being an employer that truly cares about their employees, which is something I strive to support, and beer science is pretty dang cool.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of the job is that I am continuously learning on the job and with a full year employment under my belt, I still have a lot to learn and I enjoy it.
What is your favorite Castle Danger beer? What is your favorite beer outside of Castle Danger?
As for my favorite CDB beer it’s a toss-up between Honey Raspberry Wheat or White Pine Project IPA.My favorite beer outside of CDB (it changes regularly) is Bemidji Brewing’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout.
What do you do for fun outside of work?
I am nothing short of a diehard outdoorswoman. You’ll most likely find me with a fishing rod in my hand no matter what season it is. Otherwise you can find me with a canoe on my shoulders or hiking/skiing through the woods for hunting season(s) or for no particular reason. I also enjoy the arts, particularly photography, drawing, ceramics, and woodworking.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Most definitely a dog person. Cats have their purpose in life but I don’t necessarily condone their existence. (And I’m allergic to them.)
Have you ever gotten super lost? If so, what happened?
I can honestly say I’ve never truly been lost, I tend to be a mindful and prepared person. But, being lost is an integral part of life that shapes you as a person so maybe I’m just perpetually lost. How’s that for twist?
What’s your favorite tradition or holiday?
I would say my favorite tradition is having a “family breakfast” on weekends with a group of friends throughout my college years. It was always a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of life and thankfully it’s a simple tradition that still holds true to this day, albeit not as frequent.
Describe one crazy moment you have had at Castle Danger.
My favorite memory at Castle Danger Brewery would have to be hand-packing Variety Packs. It was a joy to be a part of and to watch an inefficient way of packing boxes turn into a very efficient way of packing boxes and the teamwork it took from all departments to put out a great product.
Baylee is an absolute joy to have on our team. Even though she’s only been with us for a year, it seems like she has always been part of the family. Thank you for all of your hard work, Baylee!
